From walking in couture on the Chanel runway to strutting in bedazzled lingerie at the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show, Kendall Jenner has clearly been making waves in the fashion industry. Unfortunately, not everyone in fashion is on Team Kendall. In fact, Calvin Klein (the designer, not the brand) is very much not a fan of the reality TV starlet-turned-smoldering-model, even if she did star in his brand's campaigns both in 2015 and 2016.

Fashionista reports that while appearing at the Savannah College of Art and Design on April 14, the iconic American fashion designer expressed his disappointment over the decision of his namesake brand — from which he left in 2002 after the company was acquired by PVH — to feature Jenner as one of the stars of its campaign. "You know, I'm really not that familiar with it... I'm sure she's a lovely young woman. It's not the kind of thing I would have done, even today," Klein reportedly said.

Klein clarified that he doesn't agree with the current trend of having Instagram celebrities and reality stars model for brands simply based on publicity or follower count: "Now, models are paid for how many followers they have. They’re booked not because they represent the essence of the designer, which is what I tried to do — they’re booked because of how many followers they have online. I don’t think that, long-term, is going to work... I don't think that's a great formula for success for the product you're trying to sell."

In addition, the designer made it clear that Jenner isn't the only Kardashian he doesn't care to keep up with. "If you take really exquisite photographs of the right people in the right clothes in the right location, and you put it online, that’s fine," he said, adding, "Just putting any old clothes on Kim Kardashian, long-term, isn’t going to do a thing.”

However, Klein isn't totally against social media-friendly celebrities modeling his tighty-whities; in fact, when it comes to pop star Justin Bieber's ads for the same company, he revealed that he was totally on board with the brand's selection.

"I think they’re very good," Klein commented. “So many people wanted to be on a billboard or in an ad or in a commercial, and for sure Justin Bieber wanted to do it. I thought that was really good... When [I say] I like Justin Bieber in the Calvin Klein underwear [campaign], it’s because I like him — not because he’s got millions of followers."

Then again, his affection towards the "Love Yourself" singer should come as no surprise. We are talking about the man who put Marky Mark on the map here.
