Kesha got candid about her brutal ongoing legal battle with producer Dr. Luke as well as her views on the United States' lax gun control laws during a Democratic National Convention event in Philadelphia on Tuesday (July 26) evening.

While performing at Gabby Giffords' Americans for Responsible Solutions event, PEOPLE reports the pop star addressed the crowd briefly to speak about her legal troubles with the music producer, who Kesha alleged raped and abused her during their time working together. (Dr. Luke, a.k.a. Lukasz Gottwald, has repeatedly denied all claims.)

"I feel like if you're a human being, you go through pain," the singer, who performed her tracks "Tik Tok" and "Dirty Love," told the audience. "And you go through hurt. And every single one of us knows that emotion. I don't know if you guys know what I am going through — I'm going through a lawsuit. It's f---ing horrible!"

Kesha, wearing a shirt that spelled out "ENOUGH," also spoke out against gun violence, making an emotional plea for stricter common sense gun control legislation.

"We as a nation, we can't control who feels hurt," she added. "We can't control who feels pain, and we can't control what you do with the hurt and the pain and the anger. You can't control every single person and know how they're gonna deal with things and know if they're gonna pick up a weapon... What we can control is who we give the f---ing weapons to."
