Kimberly Caldwell glows in a slinky, shimmering tunic dress in the video for her new single 'Desperate Girls & Stupid Boys.' The song comes from the pop-rock singer's long-awaited debut 'Without Regret,' due April 19.

The party record’s video provides a canvas for Caldwell to escape from the mundane life -- perhaps a fresh opportunity that she channels through music and dance. "Try to follow me I know a way out / It’s your life / So try not to get stuck in this crazy circus / Misery loves company / So let’s dance until we die," she sings in her recognizable husky, confident vocal style.

Self-explanatory and beautifully shot by Lex Halaby (Hoobastank, Juanes), the director freezes the crowd in the frame, mirroring Caldwell’s lyrics about the same old, predictable partygoers who might as well be puppets on strings. She's even singing to the people who are frozen in time at the bar:

"Same old destinations / We’re all falling down / Like broken wind-up toys / Desperate girls and stupid boys."

A second season finalist on 'American Idol,' music lovers will quickly forget that Caldwell's career took off after the talent competition and should trust that she can hold her own as an artist, the way Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, Jennifer Hudson and Daughtry did with theirs. She has the chops to pull off modern-day pop songs that sisters Ann and Nancy Wilson (of Heart) and Pat Benatar did in their heyday, and proves she can take on artists like Pink and Kelly Clarkson with her own style and stage presence.
