Lady Gaga
has cultivated one of the most outrageous and unique looks in pop music today: extreme, winged cat eye liner, blood-red lipstick, prosthetic cheekbones, the list goes on and on. The singer spoke to PEOPLE about her beauty regimens, routines and secrets -- which appear in the magazine's March 28 issue. Her overall mantra? "Just go with your gut. Whenever you try to be someone else, it’s boring."

The never boring Gaga revealed that her beauty icons are her mom (Cynthia Germanotta) and Princess Diana. She also said that mama Gaga taught her to wash her face with ivory soap. But she isn't always quick to follow that good advice. Gaga revealed that she goes to bed wearing make up seven nights a week. Since the singer wears tons of heavy products, this practice must be murder on her skin. "That is not good for your skin, but I’m blessed with good genes," she reasons. She said she is nixing mascara and false lashes in favor of eyeliner, musing that “I think it’s more modern not to wear [either]."

Gaga also revealed she isn't a tanorexic sun worshipper, saying “I don’t like to tan my face because it’s bad for wrinkles." She admitted she misses her naturally dark brown strands and that her hair is falling out from bleaching it blond. Beauty must suffer, and Gaga is taking it all in stride. She also said that drugstore scent Jean Nate and Baby Rose Jean's by Versace were her favorite fragrances while growing up.

So there are a few tips and suggestions if you want to follow in the platform boot footsteps of Lady Gaga.
