Lady Gaga Says Born This Way Ball Tour Represents ‘The Kingdom of Fame’

As photos and fan-filmed footage of Lady Gaga‘s Born This Way Ball world tour rolls in, the Mother Monster herself has shared the details about the stage and the storyline behind it. We’ve commented that it looks like a castle that can’t be easy to transport from gig to gig.

In a press release, Gaga called the tour “the tale of the Beginning, the genesis of the Kingdom of Fame,” which would explain why it looks like a castle!

The BTW Ball stage was constructed by Tait Towers, which has previously built stages for the likes of Madonna. It’s also a record-breaker. “The stage set for the Born This Way Ball is the largest scenic structure that’s ever been built to tour,” said James “Winky” Fairorth, CEO of Tait Towers.

The structure and its architectural detail were not altered in order to make it easy to move from show to show, either. Which means it’s a chore to disassemble and re-assemble. Remembrer, Gaga did share a photo of her with a drill, working on the stage!

Now about this stage. It has 30 active windows and doors, with a custom, scenic, painted roll drop to reveal different scenes from rooms within the castle, which is 50 feet tall. There are 620 feet of custom LED Lights and automated gates that open and close.

So the stage doesn’t look like a castle or act like one. It is one!

Moving it to and fro requires 15, 53-foot long tractor trailers and there are approximately 200 set carts that all of the elements travel in.

What does all these mean, in a nutshell? That the castle and the stage are epic and majestic, just like the pop star who performs on them.

Gaga’s is dressing in fashions from Italian designers, like Versace. The toast of the Italian fashion world, Donatella Versace, gushed about her client, saying, “Lady Gaga is the present and the future. She is the most revolutionary and inspirational artist. She is fearless and daring. I can’t wait for everyone to be surprised by what we’ve cooked up together!”

Additional dates for the Born This Way Ball Tour are expected to be announced soon.
