Lady Gaga Will Reportedly Pay Tribute to David Bowie at the 2016 Grammys
Lady Gaga will reportedly pay tribute to the late David Bowie at the forthcoming 2016 Grammys ceremony, according to an exclusive report from “sources” to Page Six. Yes, it’s just a tabloid report for now, so take it with a grain of salt — but a completely believable grain of salt nonetheless.
“Lady Gaga is quietly mourning David Bowie and will pay tribute to him at the Grammy Awards, sources exclusively tell Page Six. ‘There’s been discussions about a Bowie tribute, but nothing is confirmed yet,” said a source close to Gaga.”
Gaga is already scheduled to perform at the Grammys in a partnership with Intel to provide a “unique music experience” involving technology (we’re already preparing for RoboGaGa 5000 — or perhaps the return of the Volantis dress?), so it wouldn’t be outrageous to assume that she’s available to perform a Bowie tribute as well.
Mother Monster has been quietly paying tribute to the late icon on social media in the past few days, switching her profile photo to Bowie’s Blackstar logo and posting photos of herself in “Ashes To Ashes” mode during the ARTPOP era. Her single artwork for “Applause” was also inspired by Bowie’s Scary Monsters (And Super Creeps) album artwork.
Only days before his death, Gaga spoke about Bowie’s profound influence on her own art ever since her debut, The Fame. “[W]hen I fell in love with David Bowie, when I was living on the Lower East Side, I always felt that his glamour was something he was using to express a message to people that was very healing for their souls,” she explained.
Bowie died at age 69 on January 10, just days after the release of his final album, Blackstar.
