Lady Gaga has responded to South African rap-rave act Die Antwoord's diss of her in their video for 'Fatty Boom Boom,' and lots of little monsters have followed suit to trash the group on Twitter. A digital war is imminent.

In the graphic and tasteless video, which you can view below, the Zef-inspired, counterculture group portrays the Mother Monster in unflattering light and in her meat dress. She gets carjacked and runs through a slum. The band performs in body paint and in blackface, and Gaga later returns. She gives birth to a locust (warning: if you have a weak stomach, skip this part!) and goes on with her life. That is, until she is chased by a lion, mauled while wearing raw meat. There is no cute or funny subtext in this clip.

Ma Monster and her makeup artist Tara Savelo didn't take kindly to the visual throttling of Gaga, with Savelo tweeting that performing in blackface is racist, and she even threw a diss at chronic Gaga insulter Madonna.

Die Antwoord did respond that while they are not as big as Mother Monster, they are cooler. That is a matter of personal taste, and of course, there is no accounting for that.

Gaga pointed out that she sold tons of tickets in their homeland. She tweeted: "i fink u freaky but you don't have a hit. hundred thousand tIckets sold in SA." The "fink u freaky" part is a reference to one of Die Antwoord's songs.

Final score: Gaga at the top of the leaderboard. Die Antwoord? Not even on it, son!

And at the end of the day, Gaga is an envelope pushing artist. You'd think she and Die Antwoord would feel like kindred spirits. In fact, Gaga reportedly invited the collective to tour with her, but they said, "Thanks, but no thanks," since they prefer Celine Dion. No, we're not kidding.

Die Antwoord seem like muckrakers who like ruffling Gaga's feathers, but she can back it up with art and commerce.

Below are the tweets on the matter.
