Lady Gaga opened the Grammy Nominations concert tonight (Nov. 30) and the staging and the styling looked like something out of a Tim Burton movie or a scene from 'Alien.' There were no rainbows or unicorns as Gaga performed her brand new single 'Marry the Night' in a black dress with a huge poufy neckline that spread across her shoulders, which she promptly removed by the second verse.

Gaga's face was painted in skull-like make up, similar to the look she sported while wearing a tux in the 'Born This Way' video, complete with raccoon smudges around her eyes and defined lines around her mouth. Her hair was blown back off her face, so you could see her elaborate makeup. She danced in thigh-high black boots and the familiar black bra and panties. That's attire that many of her little monsters might find appropriate for after dark.

Overall, the stage was transformed into a colorless underworld, with dancers cloaked in black amid dark, gothic props that littered the canvas. A huge, glowing moon hung in the background, so the stage mimicked the nighttime Gaga was singing about. She had a full crew of dancers backing her up, but as usual, all eyes were on the Mother Monster.

This was just the appetizer, as Gaga was scheduled to return to the stage again to perform 'You & I' with Sugarland.
