Lady Gaga Snags Most Pretentious Album Ever Award
Lady Gaga's 'Born This Way' was christened the 'Most Pretentious Album Ever' by British music bible the NME. That's a bit harsh, no? Regardless, the Mother Monster posted a tweet about the not-so-prestigious honor, slyly pointing out that to receive such a label from a pretentious publication constitutes irony.
Gaga tweeted: "Oh the irony of winning "Most Pretentious Album Ever" from none other than NME. *eyeroll* I might laugh forever + then return to narcissism."
The non-accolade was enough to elicit an eye roll from the 'Marry the Night' singer. The only person who likely agrees with the NME's assessment of 'Born This Way' is Madonna, who referred to Gaga as "reductive," which many little monsters might consider a pretentious phrase.
To say it's the most pretentious album ever is also a bit much. It's not like it was a highfalutin concept album with all these characters pulled from left field sonics. There are certainly many more pretentious albums out there, several of which are as recent as 'Born This Way.'
Do we smell a NME boycott launched by little monsters?
Do you think 'Born This Way' is pretentious? Or do you find it to be full of fun and dancefloor-worthy anthems?
