Lauren Alaina, who almost didn't perform at all due to a ruptured vocal cord she sustained during rehearsals, sang Pam Tillis' 'Maybe It Was Memphis' for her second performance on 'American Idol' tonight. The song was selected by Alaina's personal idol, country superstar Carrie Underwood.

Alaina, who soldiered through her personal favorite song of the season (Underwood's 'Flat on the Floor') in the first round, appeared in a shiny gold dress and gold boots for round two. Seated on a stool in between a fiddle player and a guitarist, Alaina sounded as if she got past the her vocal scare from earlier in the night.

The young singer looked confident as she stood up from the stool and belted out the country ballad. She stomped her feet as she powered through the song without missing a note. It was a pretty impressive performance for someone who almost lost her voice completely before the show.

After the song, Lauren was joined onstage by her co-finalist Scotty McCreery for the judges' comments for the first two rounds. Randy Jackson and Jennifer Lopez both gave round one to McCreery and round two to Alaina. Steven Tyler, who complimented both contestants, gave both rounds to Alaina "only because she's prettier."
