It was an event as unbelievable as the parting of the Red Sea when, during Season 5 of The Hills, Lauren Conrad arrived at Heidi Montag's wedding. It had been years since the former best friends had spoken (a massive blowout over Montag's eventual husband, Spencer Pratt, irreparably damaged their connection), and though the act seemed encouraging, Conrad prematurely fled out of the church's side door.

Welp, 10 years after the MTV reality show's premiere, Conrad has explained to Us Weekly that there was more to the moment — her final appearance on The Hills. To put it simply, she was late to an event with her boyfriend.

"The power went out, the generator went out and I said, 'I need to leave!'" Conrad told the magazine. "And [producers] wouldn't let me leave! They literally locked me in the basement with two security guards and wouldn't let me leave! And I was like, 'You can't keep me here!' I was throwing a fit!"

While Conrad has fond memories of her early days on the show, she says it had become something unrecognizable by Speidi's 2009 nuptials.

"At that point, this wasn't really my life anymore, and I left out the [church's] side door, so that's why in the final scene, I'm not leaving with everyone else — I'm taking a side exit out because I had a car waiting, and I needed to leave!"
