Lea Michele Reveals That ‘Glee’ Will Go Back to Basics in Season 3
It's pretty clear that none of the characters are as excited about the fast-approaching Season 3 of 'Glee' as Lea Michele. Afterall, Rachel is the star of the show! In a new interview with Wetpaint, Lea very excitedly dished on what us gleeks can expect from the new season.
“There’s nothing specific that I can say to explain it, but then when you read the script, you go ‘Oh, that’s Season 1 'Glee,''” Lea says. "In Season 1, we did a lot of classic rock songs — or not even so much classic rock, but songs you haven’t seen in the Top 10 in awhile. I definitely think they’re going to do more of that this year — taking songs that used to be incredibly popular and reinventing them."
Season 2 of the hit FOX show was very much geared toward the Top 40 Gaga, Bieber, Katy Perry-loving crowd, so pulling the reins back to the show's original values is sure to attract the attention of older 'Glee' fans. Additionally, rather than a hodge-podge of new characters, Lea Michele says 'Glee' will focus on the core group of kids whose lives we've found ourselves emotionally involved in for two full seasons now. "This is their senior year, some of them. People definitely want to see where they’re going to go," she acknowledges.
The senior year hooplah caused mass gleek panic a few weeks back, when fears rose that some of the main characters would be leaving the show post-graduation. Lea Michele missed the mayhem, but says she's not worried either way. "I was actually away for a lot of it. I was in Hawaii," she says. "You know, sometimes a lot of things happen in the press. But I know the truth, and Ryan Murphy is a dear friend of mine. I’ve known him for years, I’ve known him since pre-'Glee.' So for me, I know the truth, I know all the information."
But even Ryan Murphy's dear friend couldn't tell Wetpaint which songs or artists New Directions will take on this go-round. "Ryan has been so tight-lipped this year," Lea says. "I know for me personally, he’s told me I’m going to be doing a lot of Broadway. I’m super excited about that!"
As for the rest of the cast, we'll just have to wait and see. 'Glee' Season 3 premieres on Sept. 20.
