Liam Payne has ignited a Twitter controversy. Yesterday (Jan. 18), the One Direction member angered many fans after praising Willie Robertson of 'Duck Dynasty' for his "family values" in an eyebrow-raising tweet that has since been deleted.

"@williebosshog huge love to you/your family huge respect for your business prosperities and the family values you will all behold. big fan," Payne tweeted to the 'Duck Dynasty' star, whose father, Phil Robertson, was infamously briefly suspended from the show after making homophobic and racist remarks in an interview with GQ Magazine.

Payne then launched a series of angry tweets directed at news outlets who picked up the story:

While the fanbase may still be divided over the 1D member's controversial (but perhaps misinterpreted) tweets, as of today, Jan. 19, "#LiamWeStandByYou" has become a trending topic on Twitter. The news comes just days after the singer terrified Directioners after he was photographed drunk on a balcony, dangerously close to the edge.

PopCrushers and Directioners, what do you think of Liam's controversial tweet?
