LL Cool J’s Beatboxing Not Good Enough for Nicki Minaj
Nicki Minaj has made a habit of outshining fellow rappers since releasing her first mixtape, 'Playtime Is Over,' in 2007. Her impressive prowess on the mic forms the basis for her new Grammy promo with hip-hop legend LL Cool J, who's hosting the ceremony -- but can't quite keep up with Nicki's formidable flow, much to her chagrin.
The clip finds Nicki and LL on a white sound stage in front of a giant Grammy, just like the still they released a couple of weeks ago. But this time around, LL lays down a beat for Nicki, who starts rapping -- only to discover that LL's going too slow for her.
Eventually, an annoyed Nicki turns to LL and lets him know he isn't keeping up, and when he tries to defend himself, she holds up an immaculately manicured hand and tells him to "Pause."
It's all in good fun for the self-effacing LL, who made fun of his age in the first promo clip he and Nicki filmed -- and there's no shame in admitting you're no match for the blinding speed of the MC who slayed Kanye West, Jay-Z, and Rick Ross with her verse on 'Monster' a couple of years ago.
Tune in to see Nicki and LL share the stage during the Grammys on Sunday (Feb. 12), where she'll perform her new song 'Roman Holiday,' from her upcoming album 'Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded.'
