Macklemore Protests After Mike Brown Verdict [VIDEO]
In a video obtained by TMZ, the ‘Same Love’ rapper was on the front lines of the protest, marching with purpose and feeling, reenacting the “Hands up, don’t shoot” chant that has since become a hallmark of the protests.
Last night, a jury decided not to indict white police officer Darren Wilson in the murder of unarmed black teenager Mike Brown. The teen reportedly had his hands up as a sign of surrender before he was fatally shot, sparking “Hands up, don’t shoot” to become a chant at the forefront of the movement.
While Macklemore wished to be just another civilian in the protest, one videographer recognized him and asked him why it was important for him to be there.
“Mike Brown,” the rapper answered simply. “Solidarity. It’s about Mike Brown, though, it’s not about me, man.”
“It’s about Mike Brown,” he repeated. “It’s not about me.”
