Madonna Releases Statement After Alleged Hacker Is Arrested

When tracks from Madonna‘s upcoming album, ‘Rebel Heart,’ leaked onto the web in December, we didn’t actually expect an arrest to come so soon, if at all. But according to NBC News, it looks like a man was arrested in Tel Aviv for allegedly hacking into the computers of “several international artists.”

Police spokesman Mickey Rosenfeld says the suspect in question wound up hacking into computers, stealing music from different musicians and then handing it out online for a price. The person, whose identity has not been released, allegedly (quote via E! News), “broke into the personal computers of several international artists over the past few months and stole promotional final-cut singles which have yet to be released and traded them online for a fee…In light of the findings of the investigation the unit collaborated closely with the FBI, with suspicion of even more break-ins to computers owned by unknown international artists, stealing and selling their works.” Intense stuff.

Madonna took to Facebook to make a statement about the arrest, saying, “I am profoundly grateful to the FBI, the Israeli Police investigators and anyone else who helped lead to the arrest of this hacker. I deeply appreciate my fans who have provided us with pertinent information and continue to do so regarding leaks of my music. Like any citizen, I have the right to privacy. This invasion into my life – creatively, professionally, and personally remains a deeply devastating and hurtful experience, as it must be for all artists who are victims of this type of crime.”
