Will Madonna take the stage to perform at Super Bowl XLVI in 2012? One source seems to think so! SBNation.com is reporting that Queen Madge will be taking the stage for the halftime show at Super Bowl XLVI. If the singer did perform, it would mark the pop icon's first halftime performance ever!

SBNation.com is reporting that a Super Bowl insider has confirmed that Madonna will headline the halftime event. "Madonna will perform during the Super Bowl XLVI halftime show at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis on Feb. 5, sources close to the event told SBNation.com on Monday," the website reports, although a spokesperson for the NFL declined to comment.

Even if this is just a rumor, it is not so farfetched. Madonna has already announced that she will be releasing a new single in the early winter months of next year, with a new album to follow in the spring of 2012. Since, the singer will be catching a lot of buzz in the press with her new material, we think that this could be a definite possibility. She may only have one new single to perform at the halftime show, but Madonna also has a discography spanning back more than 20 years, so she has plenty of other hits to choose from for the Super Bowl spectacle.

This isn't the first Super Bowl halftime rumor that has name-dropped Madonna as a performer. Back in 1998, everybody was saying that Madonna was going to perform at Super Bowl XXXIII in Miami, and two years later she was supposed to perform at the halftime show, but decided not to at the last minute.

Keeps your fingers crossed that these rumors are true, as Madonna is always entertaining to watch perform live!
