Marcus Canty entered an exclusive club on Tuesday night's edition of 'X Factor' -- in more than one ways than one. First, he tackled the Culture Club classic 'Do You Really Want to Hurt Me,' and second, he made it through to the final 12.

Before his performance, the confident R&B singer said, "I want to make [my mentor] L.A. Reid proud so much [that] he will dream of moments like this."

Canty appeared onstage alone in a blue leather jacket and khaki pants to start off the ballad-like opening verses, delivering each note spot on. The song then kicked in -- backup dancers and all -- and Canty showed right away that this wasn't Boy George's version of the tune. He put an R&B twist on the '80s pop song and flat-out nailed it.

The judges were absolutely smitten with the performance, with Nicole Scherzinger saying, "Marcus honey, you just make it look too easy … you were born to be on that stage."

Simon Cowell remarked, "You gave it everything I would have wanted if I was your mentor."

Reid then told his 'X Factor' protege, "Tonight you stepped up and made me really, really proud."

Shortly thereafter, Canty found out he was heading to the singing competition's final 12.
