'X Factor' creator Simon Cowell has confirmed that Mariah Carey will most likely appear on the reality competition program, but her role is yet to be determined.

Cowell tells Jackie Brown during an interview that it would be difficult for Carey to serve as one of the show's judges, given that she is still pregnant with twins. "I would literally have to have the auditions in a maternity unit or something," Cowell jokes.

But he then confirmed that the 'Emotions' singer will appear on the program at some point. "I think Mariah will have a role on the live show," Cowell says. "Her idea was to be the judge of the judges ... She'll be involved in some form. I literally adore her. I love her to bits."

While several names have been thrown around as possible 'X Factor' judges, so far only one has been confirmed: producer LA Reid, who resigned as chairman of Island Def Jam to take the gig.

'X Factor' will begin airing in September on FOX, which also airs Cowell's former show, 'American Idol.'
