Rumors that she is a transsexual have dogged Lady Gaga for years. She tweeted a still photo from the 'Marry the Night' video featuring herself on a hospital gurney, with a shock of black hair and Mary Jane shoes, which lead many to wonder if that was the Mother Monster or her male alter ego Jo Calderone being wheeled off to surgery. Many took the photo, and the message that Gaga tweeted along with it, as evidence of her sex change operation.

Really? We're back here again? Yes, we are.

When Gaga tweeted the photo, she  posted this cryptic message: "It’s not that I’ve been dishonest, it’s just that I loathe reality... The beginning of the story I never told you." Many theories began to circulate.

Some Gaga watchers believe that she will reveal that she changed genders as part of that untold story. Others thought it was Jo Calderone making a reprise appearance. It's ambiguous and it got people talking. That's why it's brilliant.

Some fans realize she is being dramatic and theatrical, and reminding us that she lives halfway between reality and fantasy.

The Mirror pointed out that little monsters thought Gaga was paying homage to her late aunt Joanne Germanotta, who died of lupus in 1974, well before Gaga was born and for whom she was named. Gaga's real name is Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta, in case you didn't know already know that. But if you are a self-respecting monster, you did! The decor in the shot is very old fashioned, with red, textured walls, reminiscent of an era gone by! So that's where the Aunt Joanne conversations started.

Gaga herself has joked about people think she has a "d---" and acknowledged that she has carried herself in masculine fashion and sings in a low register. That doesn't make her a dude but if it did, so what?

We think the photo is intriguing. Is she going to tell us the story of Jo Caledrone? Is she going to explain his origins? That's our line of thinking. We'll find out whenever 'Marry the Night' premieres.
