Michael Bolton is taking cue from Coolio for his Lip Sync Battle episode.

In a preview clip for his upcoming appearance on the show, the Grammy-winning singer performs 1995 hit "Gangsta's Paradise," donning a large gold chain and looking hard into the camera. "That got real dark," host Chrissy Teigen says afterward. "I heard birds chirping and I was like, 'This is gonna be cute.' And then holy s--t. That was so awesome."

Bolton, best known for his contemporary ballads in the '80s and '90s, began his career playing hard rock and heavy metal before transitioning to pop, making his hip-hop selection a pointed departure from his past work. He's set to go head to head with Saturday Night Live cast member Pete Davidson on Thursday's episode of Lip Sync Battle, which airs at 10 p.m. ET on the Paramount Network.
