Kelly Ripa and Michael Strahan may have finally achieved ceasefire after a quiet battle surrounding Strahan's abrupt exit from Live! this spring, but Strahan's refusing to let pop culture history books eventually cite him as the feud's villain.

In April, Strahan announced he was leaving his Live post for a new gig at Good Morning AmericaRipa, who claimed she hadn't been respectfully notified ahead of time, skipped a handful of the show's subsequent tapings, and later claimed that she felt slighted by ABC's and Strahan's handling of the announcement. Strahan and Ripa have since cleared the air, but in a new interview with PeopleStrahan confirmed he and Ripa have mostly fallen out, and that he still isn't quite sure where things went so drastically wrong.

"Toward the end of it all, we didn't really communicate that much," Strahan said. "I kinda looked at it like, it was what it was. I come from a business where you have to collaborate. The show was going well? We're all winning. That's all that matters to me."

"At one point I think we were friends," he added. "I don't know what happened at the end. I learned a lot from her, though."

And Strahan said he's still disappointed in the media's portrayal of him as responsible for the bad blood.

"The most disappointing thing to me was that I was painted as the bad guy, because I value the way I carry myself," he said. "I don't want people to see me as 'Oh, he just ran out, just left them there.' That's just not true."

Ripa gave her side of the story to People in May, and said she felt a sense of betrayal from the network to whom she'd given many years of service.

"…Sometimes when you are so comfortable with somebody, you may not give them the same consideration as somebody you’re not as comfortable with — a certain formality falls away,” she said. “When you’re dealing with big business, it’s easy to forget that you’re dealing with people and that people have feelings. It’s easy to just look at it like a business unit, a unit, a unit."

Pick up the print issue of People Friday (September 23) for more from Strahan.
