They say you shouldn't ask the question if you can't handle the answer, but brave Miley Cyrus threw caution to the wind on last night's (August 26) Jimmy Kimmel Live! to see what the public really thought of her. And the results were...interesting.

Disguised as a conservative Australian reporter named Janet, Miley takes to Hollywood Boulevard in the clip above, asking folks from all walks of life if they think she's an appropriate host choice for the 2015 MTV Video Music Awards. And the response is generally: nooooooooooope nope nope.

"I think she's starving for attention and that's why she's doing it all crazy like that," notes a ten gallon hat-sporting gentleman named Carl. "She's missing something, somewhere--"

"In her heart, probably," Janet/Miley adds. "In her deep soul."

One progressive dad says he would have "no problem" if his daughters were to emulate Miley (heartening!), but says, cuttingly, "I just like Taylor Swift better" and admits of Miley's catalog, "I've never heard it." How do you like that, L.A....

And though Janet successfully fools most of her spot report's respondents, one Patriots-loving subject seems to have her all figured out.

"I think you're Miley Cyrus right now," he offers.

"Does that look like Miley Cyrus?" the reporter responds, offering the man a glimpse down her shirt. Well, the proposal certainly sounds like her.

Check out the full segment, and be sure to see if Miley validates these folks' fears at the VMAs, which air Sunday night at 9 PM EST on MTV!
