Miley Cyrus’ Flaming Lips Collaboration Is ‘Not a Typical Miley Record’
For those of you looking to clarify the details behind those musical projects Miley Cyrus currently has in the works, we've got some answers for you.
According to Billboard, Miley is working on both a solo album and a collaborative album with her favorite band, the Flaming Lips, the latter of which is tentatively titled Miley Cyrus and Her Dead Pets. The name makes sense: Both Miley and Flaming Lips frontman Wayne Coyne have matching in memoriam tattoos of her dead dog, Floyd.
And if the confirmation of two upcoming Miley albums isn't good enough there's more news! Miley wants to offer her Flaming Lips collaboration for free. Her manager Adam Leber confirmed this info, saying, “If RCA wasn’t down the gratis plan, she was prepared to buy herself out of the label.”
As for how the album will sound, a source emphasized to Billboard that it's a true collaboration. “It’s not a Miley record. It’s a project she’s been working on with the Flaming Lips," they said. "It’s amazing, it’s incredible, it just needs to be understood that it’s not at typical, straightforward Miley record — we don’t want there to be confusion in the marketplace.”
Further maintaining that the collaboration won't sound like a solo effort, the source expounded on the album's sound, saying, “It is somewhat psychedelic rock, but Miley’s writing sensibilities lean toward pop, so it’s a nice, healthy mix of both. But at the end of the day, it is Miley.”
Miley debuted one of the album's songs, then titled "Tiger Dreams," at the Adult Swim New York upfront party from earlier this year, and a demo track titled "Freaky" also made its way onto the Internet.
Billboard's source goes on to say that the album is "a throwback to a time when people released [albums] that were synergistic and not just a collection of songs. She’s super-excited about it. The Flaming Lips are her favorite band and she’s wanted to work with them her entire life. I think people are really going to be surprised.”
