mtvU Woodie Awards 2013 Winners Include The Weeknd + Macklemore & Ryan Lewis
The Woodies honor the favorite artists among the network’s college-age demographic. Macklemore & Ryan Lewis won the Branching Out Woodie and also performed live at the ceremony, playing four songs, including ‘Thrift Shop’ and ‘Can’t Hold Us,’ according to Rolling Stone.
R&B singer the Weeknd captured the FOMO Woodie. That stands for “Fear of Missing Out,” and it represents the artist that you would hate to miss in concert. Weeknd beat out Frank Ocean, Fiona Apple and Swedish House Mafia to take the trophy.
Gotye collaborator Kimbra and Foster the People singer Mark Foster won the Tag Team Woodie with A-Trak for ‘Warrior.’ Rappers Earl Sweatshirt, Machine Gun Kelly and Danny Brown also took home awards in a hip-hop-heavy event.
An abbreviated version of the 2013 Woodie Awards airs on Sunday, March 17 at 8PM ET on mtvU, with Machine Gun Kelly and Tegan and Sara serving as hosts. Check out the winners and the rest of the nominees below.
