A musical play based on Whitney Houston's 1992 film 'The Bodyguard' is currently in the works, reports The Guardian. Producers from the Adelphia Theatre in London are developing the stage production about a blossoming relationship between a popular singer Rachel Marron and her bodyguard (played by Kevin Costner in the film).

Tony and Grammy Award-winning singer Heather Headley will portray the Rachel character which Houston played in the movie. The play is expected to bow for London audiences in November.

The musical will also feature some of Houston's biggest songs from the film's soundtrack including the centerpiece 'I Will Always Love You.' Veteran director Thea Sharrock will helm the musical, which will have a book written by playwright Alex Dinelaris.

The project has been in pre-production for over a year, way before the late pop icon's unexpected death. Obviously, since her passing, interest in the play has peaked.

Casting for other roles including the bodyguard character are still ongoing. No word if the London musical will travel its way to the U.S. shores on Broadway.
