Neil Patrick Harris has been announced as the new host of the Oscars, reports Variety. This will mark the first time Harris has been tapped to lead the ceremony.

The 87th Academy Awards is scheduled to take place on Feb. 22, 2015.

Harris is no stranger to leading major awards ceremonies. The former 'How I Met Your Mother' star has hosted the Tonys in 2009, 2011, 2012 and 2013. He has also hosted the Emmys in 2009 and 2013.

This year's Oscars, the 86th Academy Awards, attracted an audience of nearly 44 million viewers in the United States alone, and was the most watched Oscars ceremony since the 72nd Academy Awards in 2000.

Harris joins a long line of celebrated figures whom have hosted the Oscars, including Billy Crystal, Whoopi Goldberg, Jon Stewart, David Letterman, Ellen DeGeneres and Seth MacFarlane.
