Life most certainly imitated art for Canadian songbird Nelly Furtado during her performance of her most recent single 'Big Hoops (Bigger the Better)' at the 2012 MuchMusic Video Awards tonight (June 17). Looking like a futuristic diva with her high, slicked back ponytail and black dress, Furtado rocked a massive pair of circular, bright green earrings that extended well past her shoulders. That's what we call some big hoops!

Furtado's earrings could double as weapons (or boomerangs) if she needed to defend herself in a pinch. But the point was well-taken. Everything is bigger when better, at least when Furtado takes the stage and opens her mouth to sing this particular tune.

The song, which appears on Furtado's forthcoming 'The Spirit Indestructible,' presents Furtado at her most "street." She celebrates the simple act of wearing big earrings and while that's not the type of music she is best remembered for or that with which she made her earliest splash, she still looked like she was trying to have a good time performing the song.

Furtado was surrounded by a crew of dancers holding lighted hoop props, but nothing and no one on that stage was as eye catching as the earrings that Furtado herself wore. It was an improvement from the red specs she sported during her Billboard Music Awards perf last month.
