Nick Jonas Opens Up About ‘Chains’ and New Music
On Thursday, Nick Jonas debuted the first solo single, 'Chains,' since the Jonas Brothers disbanded. 'Chains' is very different from the songs he released with his siblings, and Nick confesses that it felt right.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the 21-year-old singer-songwriter said that the journey of writing new music on his own was very much a natural one. "What was really great about this process is that it just fell in to place, there wasn't a whole lot of intense thinking about it," he admits.
Jonas describes his new sound as "alternative pop with a soul-based vocals." He acknowledges that fans that used to love the bubblegum pop that the Jonas Brothers used to put out might not fall for his new material. "There are those that want to come on and be understanding, but not everyone will, and that's okay," he says. "I gotta be bold enough to say that I love my fans and appreciate those that want to join me, and for those that don't, that's okay, there will be a whole new audience that's opened up to this approach."
As for whether brothers Kevin and Joe heard his new stuff, Nick reveals, "I played 'Chains' and another song called 'Numb 'pretty early for my brother Joe, and his reception was great."
