Gwen Stefani and her No Doubt bandmate (and former boyfriend, if you're up on your No Doubt lore) Tony Kanal will join Interscope Records head honcho Jimmy Iovine, who was jokingly labeled "diabolical" by Ryan Seacrest last week, on 'American Idol' for the performance episode this coming Wednesday (April 4).

Stefani and Kanal, who plays bass, will mentor the Top 8 as they prepare to sing songs from the 1980s, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The band certainly as an affinity for the '80s, having had a hit with its cover of 'It's My Life,' which was a single for Talk Talk in 1985. No Doubt are also working on their comeback album for Iovine's Interscope, so it makes promotional sense to have them dole out advice to the hopefuls.

Stefani, who is perhaps better known for her L.A.M.B. fashion line these days as opposed to her music, appeared on 'Idol' last season, offering styling tips to the contestants and dressing them in L.A.M.B. wares. This time they'll not only look fierce, but they're sure to sound awesome.
