Today (November 12), One Direction took a walk down memory lane on at least one injured foot.

The group, who placed third on the seventh season of X Factor in 2010, revisited "Torn" on BBC Radio 1—a song they first performed on the competition show. And while they seem like a well-oiled machine this time around (you can catch the video above), it was certainly not the case five years ago, when Poseidon himself tried to derail them as a formidable competitor.

During X Factor's bootcamp segment, the newly formed group put their own spin on Natalie Imbruglia's 1997 hit to impress eventual coach Simon Cowell, but the effort didn't come without its complications. Before the set, and while the guys were at the beach, Louis Tomlinson was infamously stung by a sea urchin and had to be rushed to the hospital for swelling. He returned in time to sing, but wasn't featured as a soloist.

"They're cool, they're relevant," Cowell raved after the fact, but noted they still had work to do. "I mean, it was a little bit timid. I could see that they were nervous."

1D also performed "Story of My Life," "Drag Me Down" and Rihanna's "FourFiveSeconds" as part of today's BBC set.

Evidently, X Factor's ears were burning—today on Twitter, 1D announced that they'll return to the show on November 15 for a performance.
