One Direction’s Liam Payne to Cover Attitude Magazine
One Direction's Liam Payne will grace the cover of Attitude magazine's September 2015 issue, just weeks after addressing accusations of homophobia that were slung at him following some poorly worded comments he made at a recent stop on One Direction’s On The Road Again Tour.
Liam’s Attitude cover will mark the first gay press shoot anyone from One Direction has ever done, and will be part of the upcoming promo campaign for the boyband’s upcoming fifth (and possibly last) album.
According to the Mirror, a spokesperson for Attitude believes that Liam’s cover has the potential to be their best-selling issue yet: “It’s the first solo shoot and interview any of the members of One Direction have done, they first gay press shoot and I think the only magazine promo for their new album. The news that the band are taking a hiatus or splitting up, whichever version you believe, means that this story should be global news and I’ll be surprised if it doesn’t become our biggest-selling issue ever.”
Liam made the announcement in an increasingly dramatic video shot in conjunction with the magazine, which you can check out above. The issue, which will feature two collectable covers, is set for a September 11 release date.
The 22-year-old singer recently came under fire for some off-handed, heteronormative remarks he made in concert when introducing the Four track “Girl Almighty.” Liam successfully erased the experiences of any audience members who didn’t consider themselves straight when he said, "It’s about trying to find that number one woman in your life — which none of you can relate to, since most of you are girls, except for the boys in here. YOU know what I’m talking about!”
Due to the nature of social media, Liam quickly became aware of and responded to the criticism, saying, "I am in no way shape or form homophobic that's a ridicules [sic] thing to say and I'm not here to offend people so take it as you will.”
Do you think appearing on the cover of Attitude is One Direction’s sole attempt at damage control? Do you wish Harry and/or Louis were on the cover instead? What about Niall? Are you a Larry conspiracy theorist? Let us know!
