One Direction may not have won any American Music Awards this weekend, but they received a bigger honor when they got to perform their new single 'Little Things' for the Queen of England. The boys sang at the Royal Variety Performance on Monday night (Nov. 19) and also performed the song on 'X Factor' Australia.

1D were among a host of stars, including Kylie Minogue and Rod Stewart, who performed at the 100th Royal Variety show. Dressed in formal attire and seated on illuminated stools, the guys delivered a gentle rendition of the ballad, which was penned by fellow Brit Ed Sheeran. They even got to meet the queen when she greeted the performers.

One Direction's 'X Factor' performance was similar, but without the fancy suits. The guys demonstrated their tight harmonies accompanied by only acoustic guitars. "Hope australia enjoyed our xfactor AU performance! Have a good night!," Niall Horan tweeted afterwards.

'Little Things' is the second single from the group's new album, 'Take Me Home.' "We're really happy with it as well because boy bands have done ballads before and this song's really different for a boy band," Zayn Malik said of the track. "It's just all about the song, the lyrics and getting the emotion across. It's not sad, it's more about falling in love with somebody."
