One Direction are taking their "well earned break" in 2016, but rumors are buzzing about one possible gig next February: the Super Bowl 50 half time show.

According to unconfirmed reports from UK tabloid the Daily Star, the "Drag Me Down" singers are in talks to join a performance that Bruno Mars has reportedly been asked to "curate" (and presumably, perform in as he just did in 2014).

“NFL bosses want a superstar line-up and 1D are very much in the mix," the Daily Star's source told the site. “They want a pop and rock mash-up and it is thought that Coldplay and Bruno Mars are in talks too."

“NFL bigwigs want a one-off show that will be remembered and garner the greatest audience figures ever," they continued. "Obviously the 12-minute half-time show will be worth millions in revenue, sales and downloads too. With the band finishing it would be the ultimate way for the group to say farewell to their fans.”

A great way to say goodbye to American fans, anyway, and while Liam, Louis and Niall are likely bigger fans of the game we know as "soccer" than U.S. football, we at least know that Harry has enjoyed some game time in his day.

Super Bowl 50 is scheduled for February 7, 2016, so expect more announcements in the coming months — in the meantime, vote on which artist you'd love to see at half time (alongside 1D, of course!).
