On this week's episode of 'American Idol,' contestants were challenged to sing songs from the movies. The first one to take the stage tonight was Nashville native Paul McDonald. For his song, McDonald chose the 1978 Bob Seger hit 'Old Time Rock 'n' Roll,' which has become synonymous with Tom Cruise's classic underwear rock-out scene from 1983's 'Risky Business.'

McDonald stepped out wearing an over-the-top Vegas inspired black suit with red and yellow embellishments. His demeanor definitely matched the outrageous outfit, as he worked the stage and engaged with the audience. McDonald has a lot of edginess in his voice, and he took this rock 'n' roll flair a step further by recruiting a sexy saxophone player to join onstage as he played a tambourine and sang.

Both the judges and the audience loved McDonald's performance. Steven Tyler says that he loves McDonald's "crazy wild abandonment and how it transcends to an audience." Jennifer Lopez congratulated McDonald on his growth as a performer, saying, "It's like watching a diamond in the ruff, and it's like every week it's a little more polished." Jackson ecstatically agreed, saying, "Dude I love that you are just not a typical singer. You are definitely an artist."

From the sounds of the judges opinions and the roaring cheers from the audience, we have a hunch that McDonald will be sticking around for a while.
