Philip Seymour Hoffman Dead at 46

We report with a heavy heart that critically acclaimed actor Philip Seymour Hoffman was found dead in his Manhattan apartment today (Feb. 2). He was only 46.

Details are sparse, but the NYPD and Chief Medical Examiner are investigating the cause of death. According to the Wall Street Journal, Hoffman was found in the bathroom of his apartment in West Village by a screenwriter, who subsequently called 911.

Hoffman won an Oscar for Best actor for his role as the American Author in 2005’s ‘Capote.’ Since then, he starred in the Broadway play ‘Death of a Salesman’ in 2012 alongside Spiderman actor Andrew Garfield. His previous accolades include ‘Boogie Nights,’ ‘Magnolia’ and ‘The Big Lebowski.’

Our thoughts go out to his family during this time.

UPDATE: The Daily News is reporting that the cause of death is a heroin overdose.
