His debut record, 'The World From the Side of the Moon,' has only been out for a little over four months, but 'American Idol' winner Phillip Phillips isn't wasting any time getting started on his next album.

Billboard caught up with Phillips in the midst of his ongoing promotional rounds for 'Side of the Moon' -- a trek that doesn't seem to have any end in sight for the foreseeable future -- and while he insists "there's no rush" for his second LP, he says he does intend to have it out some time next year.

And when that time comes, Phillips will have plenty of material to draw from. As he told Billboard, "I'm always writing. It might be a bad song, but I'm always writing."

For now, though? It's life on the road. "I'm playing a bunch of colleges, playing Rock in Rio in September -- opening up for John Mayer, Bruce Springsteen, and Justin Timberlake -- and have some more stuff planned," Phillips explained. And if that sounds like an awful lot of miles for one guy with a guitar to travel, it is -- but he isn't complaining. "I don't think anybody realized or thought that this would happen," he mused. "I am very thankful for this whole past year and I do feel very blessed. I really don't think anybody expected this."
