Pink Returns to Music with ‘Alice Through the Looking Glass’ Anthem, ‘Just Like Fire’

P!nk is finally back — and she’s burning up.
Surprisingly, the prolific pop star hasn’t released a new record since 2012’s The Truth About Love. (She did, however, record a one-off album called Rose Ave. as duo You+Me with Dallas Green in 2014, as well as the Ellen DeGeneres Show theme “Today’s the Day” last year.) But today, she’s returned at last with a brand new, non-TV theme show solo song: “Just Like Fire,” a contribution to the soundtrack for the upcoming Walt Disney Studios film Alice Through the Looking Glass.
The track, produced by Max Martin, Shellback and Oscar Holter, sees the singer reuniting with familiar faces in the recording studio and returning to her usual anthemic roots.
“If I can light the world up for just one day / Watch this madness, colorful charade / No one can be just like me anyway,” she declares on the striding, guitar-led power pop track, which fits in nicely somewhere between Avril and Taylor Swift‘s latest works with Max Martin. It’s a dose of self-empowerment that isn’t at all out of character for the “F–kin’ Perfect” singer — that just happens to have vague lyrical undertones of Alice in Wonderland.
Oh, and even a semi-rapped bridge: “Y’all don’t think I can run it / But look, I’ve been here, I done it,” she brags. Is that you, Mizzundaztood Alecia Moore?
