Every week at PopCrush, we’re putting the spotlight on one up-and-coming act you need to know about. Why? So you can get on board early before everyone else and their mother jumps on the bandwagon…and so you can be that one friend in the group who’s always like, “Um, actually, I prefer their earlier work.”

While we certainly pride ourselves on presenting some of the best and brightest pop releases, PopCrush Presents is all about musical diversity — and not everything relies on a sick synth beat.

Take Hinds, the Madrid-bred quartet shaking up the scene at festivals abroad and stateside with their lo-fi garage rock-meets-riot grrrl flair — and a distinctly vintage '60s pop charm to boot, from their debut single "Bamboo" to cuts like "Garden" and "San Diego."

Back at the very start of January, the group released their 12-track debut Leave Me Alone, which hit No.1 on Billboard's Alternative New Artist Album Chart. And since then, they've been playing shows around the country all spring and garnering new fans, including a set down at SXSW at Mazda + Hype Machine's Hype Hotel back in March.

"It's funny 'cause we thought this album would be all party and cheerfulness but . SURPRISE. it's not!!!!! haha," the band wrote about their debut LP. "Feelings are more balanced, like in life. so suddenly we had a more sober -or even sad- album than we expected. Please don't think we've turned into depressive people or something, we've always been humans, it's just we're now showing it to you."

Now allow us show it to you, in the form of Hinds' performance of "Garden" live at SXSW. It was an intimate show — and also probably one of the last opportunities to see them that up close and personal before their inevitable explosion onto the scene in the next few months.
