Every week at PopCrush, we’re putting the spotlight on one up-and-coming act you need to know about. Why? So you can get on board early before everyone else and their mother jumps on the bandwagon…and so you can be that one friend in the group who’s always like, “Um, actually, I prefer their earlier work.”

Social media has changed the entertainment world in many ways: You once needed a Harvard degree to nab a writing gig for The Simpsons; now a hilarious Twitter account can land you an interview. It's also brought us new music stars like Troye Sivan, and launched TV and film careers for Viners like King Bach. If you know your Tyler Oakley from your Lohanthony, Maggie Lindemann may be a familiar face to you already — but if not, we're pleased to introduce you to the rising singer-songwriter.

The 17-year-old has over 1.1 Instagram followers, yet the world's just beginning to see what she can do. Her debut single, "Knocking On Your Heart," earned her a Top 20 spot on the iTunes Alternative Chart within 24 hours of its release. Maggie is a big fan of Lana Del Rey and "Hold Me Down" singer/fellow Twitter queen Halsey, and you can hear a bit of their influence in the track, which is a yearning plea for affection from an emotionally-unavailable paramour.

Maggie says of the song's meaning, "To people asking me if "Knocking On Your Heart" is about a specific person, it's not. I think what you'll find as I share more of my music is that while my songs might be inspired by people or past relationships, they're really just about me and my own growth as an artist and as an individual."

She continues, "The song is about hurting, and wanting to gain back something or someone that you’ve lost. I knew I wanted my first song to touch on that, because it's the best way for my fans and anyone who hears it to get a window into the parts of my life that are more personal."

Maggie's currently working on her EP in Los Angeles, where she moved from Texas earlier this year. Like what you hear? "Knocking On Your Heart" is available on iTunes now, so add it to your playlist ASAP.
