Prince Performs New Song ‘Laydown’ on ‘Lopez Tonight’

Purple rain is set to drench Los Angeles' for the next 21 days, thanks to Prince's residency in the City of Angels.

Prince kicked off the 21-date residency last night by performing the funkdafied new song 'Laydown' on 'Lopez Tonight!' The veteran singer, cloaked in a skintight gold suit with wide flare pants, sparkled when he performed with the New Power Generation, including Sheila E!

Prince dipped into his catalog, pulling out old classics like 'The Beautiful Ones' and 'You're the One for Me.' Prince Rogers Nelson's hallmark falsetto is still in tip-top shape, too! He was also accompanied by a beautiful ballerina and cavorted atop a piano when performing 'The Beautiful Ones' -- which still sounds as fresh as it did in the '80s.

It is a rare occasion for Prince to perform on a talk show like Lopez's, so it was indeed a "must see" episode, which you can watch below! Reps for 'Lopez Tonight' said that they received a whopping 2,500 requests for tickets to the taping.

Prince's LA residency begins tonight, April 14, at the famed Forum.
