Psy + MC Hammer to Record Together Following Awesome AMA Performance

If you thought the surprise collaboration between Psy and MC Hammer at the American Music Awards was a one-time novelty gag, think again! The rappers are quickly becoming BFFs, and now they’re recording new music together.

Hammer told Billboard, “Well, we absolutely love working together. He’s a very humble man and a hard worker and I love working with him. We are cooking in the kitchen right now… We’ll try to make it a surprise for you.”

The idea for the 50-year-old Hammer to join Psy on a mash-up of ‘Gangnam Style’ and ’2 Legit 2 Quit’ at the AMAs came from the Korean star’s manager. “When I requested to close the show, me and my manager Scooter Braun talked a lot about… [it needed] to be special, to be big, to be massive, to be you know, something,” Psy told Billboard. “So we had a conversation on the phone — I was in Korea — and all of a sudden Scooter says, ‘How about MC Hammer?’”

Hammer and his parachute pants haven’t been cool in nearly two decades, but he was the biggest star of the early ’90s, thanks to smash hits like ‘U Can’t Touch This,’ ‘Have You Seen Her,’ and ‘Pray.’ His 1990 release ‘Please, Hammer, Don’t Hurt ‘Em,’ was the first rap album to earn diamond certification and still ranks among the Top 5 best-selling hip-hop albums in history.

We can’t wait to see if Psy can re-create the magic of ‘Gangnam Style’ on a new song with one of hip-hop’s living legends.
