Then + Now: The Cast of ‘Reba’

CMT

From 2001-2007, ‘Reba’ warmed our hearts, made us laugh, and secretly made us wish we had a bizarre blended family dynamic like the Harts’. Though the beloved sitcom still exists in reruns, believe it or not, the final episode aired six whole years ago. Scroll down to see what your favorite stars have been up to since wreaking havoc in small town Texas.

Then: In 2001, fresh from her critically-acclaimed run on Broadway as Annie Oakley in ‘Annie Get Your Gun,’ country music’s most famous redhead, Reba McEntire, made her sitcom debut. On the show, McEntire played the sharp, strong, and sarcastic Reba Hart, a divorced mother of three trying to make a great life for her family while simultaneously dealing with her ex-husband, Brock, and his annoying mistress-turned-wife, Barbara Jean. McEntire’s performance earned her a Golden Globe nomination.

Now: McEntire is still hugely successful: In 2011, she was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame. A year later, she became one of two top-selling female country music singers of all-time — an honor she shares with fellow country great, Shania Twain. That same year, McEntire’s new television series, ‘Malibu Country,’ premiered, though it was canceled after eighteen episodes.

Then: Christopher Rich played Brock, Reba’s selfish-yet-good-hearted ex-husband, who marries his much younger assistant, Barbra Jean. Before ‘Reba,’ Rich was best known for his role as Miller Redfield on ‘Murphy Brown.’

Now: Since ‘Reba’ ended in 2007, Rich has portrayed recurring characters on several other televisions shows, including ‘Boston Legal,’ and ‘Desperate Housewives.’ He currently plays Melissa Joan Hart’s dad on ABC Family’s ‘Melissa & Joey.’

Then: Melissa Peterman’s larger-than-life character, Barbra Jean, wanted nothing more than to become besties with her new husband’s ex-wife. By the end of the series, the air-headed Barbra Jean finally gets her wish: Reba admits that she is her closest friend.

Now: Peterman currently stars on the ABC Family sitcom ‘Baby Daddy.’ Beginning in May, she will host the network’s upcoming dancing competition show, ‘Dancing Fools.’

JoAnna Garcia (Cheyenne Montgomery)

Then: JoAnna Garcia portrayed the loveably ditzy Cheyenne, Reba and Brock’s oldest daughter who becomes pregnant while still in high school. She soon marries her high school sweetheart, Van, and the two live together in Reba’s home, eventually having another child as well. In the late ’90s, Garcia was also a regular on Nickelodeon’s classic ‘Are You Afraid of the Dark?’

Now: In 2010, Garcia married Yankees player Nick Swisher, with McEntire and Peterman serving as bridesmaids. She has continued to act both on TV and in film, with roles in ‘Privleged,’ ‘Gossip Girl,’ ‘Animal Practice,’ and in the Vince Vaughn/Owen Wilson comedy ‘The Internship.’ She currently has a recurring role as Ariel on ‘Once Upon a Time.’ She and Swisher welcomed their first child in May 2013.

Steve Howey (Van Montgomery)

Then: Steve Howey played Van Montgomery, Cheyenne’s sweet, yet dim-witted, husband. At the beginning of the series, Van was the high school quarterback and star of the football team, but ultimately ends up as Reba’s business partner.

Now: Howey has continued to act, with a part in the 2009 Anne Hathaway/Kate Hudson comedy, ‘Bride Wars,’ and a one-episode stint in ‘Psych.’ Most notably, he currently stars as Kev Ball on HBO’s ‘Shameless.’

Scarlett Pomers (Kyra Hart)

Then: Kyra was Reba and Brock’s rebellious, punky middle child, always ready with a sarcastic comeback. Scarlett Pomers, battling an eating disorder in real life, left the show for most of its fifth season to seek treatment. In recovery, she came back for the sixth and final season.

Now: Pomers is also a musician, and in recent years, has focused more on her music. Her debut EP, ‘Insane,’ came out in 2010.

Mitch Holleman (Jake Hart)

Then: Mitch Holleman played Reba and Brock’s youngest child, Jake. Before ‘Reba,’ Holleman had small roles in ‘The Animal,’ with Rob Schneider, and ‘Bubble Boy,’ with Jake Gyllenhaal.

Now: Holleman, now 19, is still acting. He had an uncredited role in ‘The Hangover’ in 2009, and most recently guest-starred in an episode of Disney’s ‘Shake it Up.’
