Rihanna, Carly Rae Jepsen + More Make 2012 Top Tagged Artists List on Shazam

Rihanna, Carly Rae Jepsen and fun. were among the acts that were the top tagged artists on Shazam, the audio detection service that allows users to tag or identify a snippet of music. Why is that a big deal and why should you care? Simple. We'll tell you. Shazam is a predictor of songs that become national hits, as the service claims that 85 percent of the songs that achieve No. 1 status on ther site go on to become huge hits. It sounds like Shazam is onto something.

Here's how the stats shake out, courtesy of The Hollywood Reporter.

Gotye's 'Somebody That I Used to Know' was the top tagged tune of 2012 in the world, with 14.9 million. Fun.'s 'We Are Young' followed with 8.1 million tags. Those songs both enjoyed stints at No. 1 on the Billboard Top 200.

CRJ's ubiquitous 'Call Me Maybe' was also Top 10 in tagging.

Rihanna was the most tagged artist of the year, with 'We Found Love' and other 'Talk That Talk' tracks logging 15 million tags in a year.
