Rihanna honored her late grandmother -- Gran Gran Dolly, who died back in the summer and whom she commemorated with a giant tattoo on her chest -- by generously donating $1.75 million to a hospital in Barbados. It's that time of year, where celebs and pop stars are in a giving mood and mode, and RiRi was able to assist her native island.

RiRi loved her grandmother Clara "Dolly" Braithwaite immensely, and now her spirit will live on courtesy of the donation. The radiotherapy department at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Bridgetown has been renamed "The Clara Braithwaite Centre for Oncology and Nuclear Medicine."

The donation has helped the hospital purchase necessary equipment for its efforts.

RiRi issued a statement to E! about her donation, saying, "This was my way of giving back to Barbados, in a form of philanthropy, by assisting the QEH in its continued modernization program ... I believe that this will have a huge impact on the people of Barbados. This was all done to save lives or at least extend them."

It's nice to see RiRi doing something newsworthy and headline-grabbing that doesn't involve the removal of her top or some sort of Instagram photo of herself and Chris Brown hinting that they are either a couple or have broken up yet again.
