Robert Downey, Jr. is speaking out on his son Indio's arrest for cocaine possession over the weekend.

"Unfortunately, there is a genetic component to addiction and Indio has likely inherited it," Downey said in a statement to TMZ. "Also, there is a lot of family support and understanding, and we’re all determined to rally behind him and help him become the man he's capable of being."

Indio, 20, was arrested for cocaine possession on June 29, after a cop saw him smoking from a pipe while riding as a passenger in a car in West Hollywood. Police searched the car and allegedly found cocaine on Indio. He was released after posting $10,000 bail.

"We’re grateful to the Sheriff’s department for their intervention, and believe Indio can be another recovery success story instead of a cautionary tale," the actor added in his statement.

Downey himself battled drug addiction for years -- even spending time behind bars -- before getting sober and completely revamping his career.

We wish Indio the best in his recovery.
