Robert Pattinson Talks ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’

Fans of the immensely popular Fifty Shades of Grey books are probably aware of its origin story as Twilight fan-fiction that managed to flourish into a three-part series with an enormous fan base in its own right. To be totally honest, if you spend any amount of time on Tumblr at all you probably have some vague inkling of how it all started. And so it only makes sense that one of the stars of the Twilight movies would eventually be asked to comment on the upcoming Fifty Shades of Grey film. So when Reuters asked Robert Pattinson to dish on the series, we were totally excited to get his point of view.

Rob said to Reuters, "I haven't actually read the book but I think it must be very, very different. I don't see how it can work if it's not different." He's probably talking about the fact that the Fifty Shades universe exists in a far more adult world and is geared toward an audience vastly different from that of Twilight's.

But Rob went on to comment on the intensity of the built-in fan base, because despite the more grown-up themes inherent in Fifty Shades there is, undoubtedly, some crossover between both series. He said "It's amazing; it's that fan base. There's some kind of profound connection that a bunch of people have to it and I've never figured out quite what it is."
