Robert Pattinson may look Edward Cullen-type serious on the cover of the latest issue of The Hollywood Reporter, but he is nothing but warm and outgoing in the interview, talking openly about his 'Twilight' experience and even touching a little bit on the status of his relationship with Kristen Stewart.

Before his fame exploded in the blockbuster that was 'Twilight,' Pattinson revealed that he sent an audition tape in with his roommate, "[British actor] Tom [Sturridge] playing Bella." And when director Catherine Hardwicke called him after that to talk, Pattinson admits that he "hadn't read the books or the script and I just bulls---ed on the phone."

He must have done something right, since he then went to Hardwicke's home in California and did a screen test -- which is where he first met Kristen Stewart, already cast as Bella.

"In one of the scenes, I was [supposed to] take my shirt off, and I think I was the one guy who didn't," he recalled.

And despite the fact that producers were initially hesitant in casting the then 21-year-old Pattinson as a high schooler ("shave 20 times a day," his agent instructed), he eventually got the coveted part -- a role which changed his life forever.

"I genuinely had no idea it was going to be a [blockbuster]," Pattinson told the magazine, originally thinking it was going to be like Hardwicke's previous film "'Thirteen,' but with vampires."

And as for that iconic role, Pattinson said it was quite difficult to play sometimes.

"It was quite a constricting character, in a way," he revealed about Edward Cullen. "You want to make [him] as dramatic as possible, but you have someone who never loses his temper, and so it's like, 'How the f-- do you do this?'" he questioned, calling the part "one of the hardest jobs I've ever done."

Hard, yes, but one that led him into a serious relationship with his co-star Kristen Stewart for years, which all came to a head when she infamously cheated on him with her married 'Snow White and the Huntsman' director.

Though the magazine notes that Pattinson didn't discuss his relationship with K. Stew or the cheating scandal, he was totally game for another question involving the actress.

When asked if the two are still in contact, Pattinson was swift with the reply.

"Oh, yeah," he answered "blithely," the magazine reports.

And there you have it, Twihards.
