The End of ‘Sam & Cat’ for Jennette McCurdy and Ariana Grande?

Is ‘Sam & Cat’ coming to an end? Whisperings of behind the scenes drama between Nickelodeon and stars Jennette McCurdy and Ariana Grande may cause the network’s most popular show to end after the show’s 40-episode first season.

On Saturday night at the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards, ‘Sam & Cat’ was awarded the Favorite TV Show award, and Grande (Cat) walked on stage to accept the honor. Notably absent was McCurdy, who took to Twitter to explain why she was a no-show.

“I wish I could explain everything as thoroughly as I would like to, but unfortunately a simpler explanation is all I can write,” she said in a letter to fans. “I was put in an uncomfortable, compromising, unfair situation (many of you have guessed what it is) and I had to look out for me. I chose to not go because sticking up for what is right and what is fair is what my mom taught me is ALWAYS the most important thing.”

Fans speculated that McCurdy was being punished for the racy pictures leak that happened in March, but McCurdy stated that it had nothing to do with the pictures, adding, “It has to do with how nickelodeon treated me. That’s all.”

Not only did McCurdy seem to call out the network on Saturday night, but fans of the duo are speculating that McCurdy and Grande have some tension between them as well. ‘Sam & Cat’ fans were confused when McCurdy, who follows almost 43,000 of her own fans on Twitter, recently unfollowed Grande on the social network. TMZ claims this morning that McCurdy is apparently unhappy with her paycheck, reporting that Grande makes substantially more money than McCurdy.

Deadline reports that production of the first season of ‘Sam & Cat’ has already wrapped up, but the network has not yet announced that it will officially have a second season. The show is Nickelodeon’s highest rated series and thus, insiders state that it’s very unusual for a network to not officially announce another season at this point.

“We are wrapping up what was an unusually long production cycle of ’Sam & Cat,’ and everyone is understandably tired,” the network said in a statement. “We are going into our production hiatus next week which will give everyone on the show a much needed rest.”

With both McCurdy and Grande pursuing music careers and maturing into adults, it wouldn’t be surprising if they decide to go their own separate ways to focus on new pursuits.

‘Sam & Cat’ debuted last year and united the characters of Sam from ‘iCarly’ and Cat from ‘Victorious.’ The show focuses on the adventures of the two girls as they become roommates and decide to start a babysitting service.
