Here's a bit of a bummer for fans of Selena Gomez and the Scene. The starlet announced that she and her band are taking time off of music in 2012 to focus on other projects.

"We're going to take a break from music," Gomez told E! News. "My band and I are going to chill on that for a second." Gomez's hectic filming schedule may come in to play with this decision. "I'm doing two films, which I'm excited about," she said. "They're both different and things I've never played before, so that'll be fun for me." One of the films is 'Springbreakers,' her edgy, dark Harmony Korine project. Idolator reports that the other project is 'Hot Mess,' and that it is about four girls “desperately trying to avoid becoming the hot messes they are destined to be.” That sounds like a stretch for the polished princess we've come to know!

In addition to hitting pause on her recording career, Gomez is also saying goodbye to 'Wizards of Waverly Place,' the Disney series that propelled her into tween superstardom -- something her fans aren't too happy about! When asked if her followers are ready to let go of the magical Mouse House sitcom, Gomez sighed. "Definitely not, according to my Twitter feed and everything else," she laughed. "Of course we could stay on, but we want to do other things. We want to move on. The show will live on forever, and obviously, we're all grateful for it."

We're looking forward to the next phase of Gomez's career! (And we're sure beau Justin Bieber appreciates the extra time she'll have on her hands!)
